Designing outdoor spaces for inpatient and outpatient facilities requires extra thought both because of the range of patients’ physical and mental conditions and because these spaces have to accommodate the patients’ friends, families, and their caregivers. Some patients are light sensitive; others become nauseous when exposed to strong scents. Dementia patients need predictability and clarity in the garden’s layout. Others will benefit from physical and horticultural therapy.

Lime Green Design has addressed these issues while designing various health care facilities along the Front Range, including gardens for psychiatric patients, mental health facilities, outpatient hospitals, and cancer treatment centers.
