Mead Elementary School

A brand new replacement school was built on the site of the original elementary school, with a site re-design complementing the new school building. Phasing allowed the existing school to continue to function during construction.

The school’s movement program encourages physical exercise to be integrated into the academic program. As a result, in addition to the conventional playground areas, a movement plaza adjacent to the main entrance, provides the opportunity for outdoor gatherings and performances in addition to the movement program. A jogging trail and a large ball field offers additional opportunities for formal and informal activities. A gaga ball pit is included with the more conventional playground equipment.

The pre-school and kindergarten program is served by a separate, fenced play area, with age appropriate equipment, trike track and shade structure.

Off the maker space a plaza and shade structure allows the classroom to extend outdoors, with a fence designed to act as an armature for a white board, water wall and other learning activities.
